Leola's voices come from a neural text-to-speech model that runs on your iPhone's chip. No cloud service bills us for every word, so there's nothing to meter and nothing to pass on to you. What it does use is your battery and storage.

Is Leola free?

Yes, listening is free: neural voices on your iPhone (one per language), articles, pasted text and notes, a queue of 3 items, a playlist and one trial audio download. Leola Plus adds audio downloads, every voice, cleaned-up PDFs, no caps on your library and up to 3× speed.

Does my text leave my iPhone?

No. The voices are generated on your iPhone, and what you add is never sent to us or to any server. The only download is the voice model, once, from our hosting. After that, Leola works in airplane mode.

Is the voice AI?

Yes: a neural text-to-speech model (Supertonic 3, by Supertone) that runs on your iPhone. That's why there are no AI token costs: no cloud service bills per word, so there are no credits to buy and no word limits. It uses your battery and storage instead.

Which languages can it read?

At launch, English, Spanish and Portuguese (Brazil), with voices that run on your iPhone.

Can I download the audio?

Yes, as an M4A file to Files, AirDrop or the share sheet. Downloads are part of Leola Plus, and the free plan includes one trial download of up to 10 minutes. The audio is for your personal use: please don't publish or share audio of other people's articles or books. Each file says in its metadata that the voice is machine-generated.

Do I need an account?

No. No sign-up, no email, no password. Your library lives on your iPhone.

How much is Plus?

7 days free, then $34.99 a year. Or $5.99 a month, or $59.99 once. We remind you 2 days before the trial ends, and you can cancel in Settings.
